The DIP Olympiads are gaining momentum with teams competing hard for the final standings. With points to be earned for every event won there is no respite for teams with everyone wanting to top the list.

This venture organized by Yala Sports is one of its kinds providing people working at DIP with an opportunity to get away from their daily routine and work as a team on a sports field. It definitely helps in building team spirit, brings the players together on a different level helping them to relate to each other in a better manner and brings out hidden talents in people. It is a great platform for companies in DIP to get together and develop corporate relationship.

Indoor Volleyball

The final was played between Arabtec A and Bridgestone. The entire match was a roller coaster ride with a nail biting finish. Looking at the way matches were being won the favorites to win the tournament would have been Bridgestone who had won their league matches with a lot of ease and had built the momentum for the finals. But Arabtec A had different plans, after losing the first game to Bridgestone Arabtec A played out of their skins to turn the match around. They won the second game with ease to take it to the third and final game of the match. Everyone expected Bridgestone to fight back with all their might which they did but Arabtec were on a roll, they won the final game with the smallest margin possible to emerge the winners. Result Aratbtec A beat Bridgestone 2-1.

This match will be long remembered for the fighting spirit of Team Arabtec who believed in themselves, backed their instincts and came out on the top with never say die attitude.

Pool/Billiards

A game requiring lot of concentration, thinking and skill and that's what Greg from EBS showed to come right on top of the standings at the Olympiads. The final standings for pool were as follows;

3rd place : Faisal Jassim Trading Company - Player name : Eduardo

In the finals Greg from EBS played against Samir from Faisal Jassim Trading Company which Greg won 3-0.

This event is not just about individual glory, it's about the whole team, and so what everyone looks at the end of the day is which company is on top of the list and in the hunt for the overall winner's trophy. The competition is heating up with different teams winning different events. As on 23rd may 2006 the final standings at the Olympiads are as follows;

1- Emirates Building Systems ( EBS) Points = 83

2- Faisal Jassim Trading Company Points = 70

25 th of May

25th May 2006 Day 3 at the Olympiads! What action, what spirit and competition! One got to see the teams at their best trying to reach the summit, be on top and why not the games scheduled for the day were such - Cricket and Badminton. The response from the participants was overwhelming with 20 teams participating just in the indoor cricket tournament.

The organizers Yala sports have seen to it that all the participants get a fair chance to prove their mettle. The Round robin matches provides each team with ample of opportunity to get back in the game.

Cricket

The Initial matches happened in a group format as round robin matches wherein each team in the group played against other teams in the same group. Out of the groups the top team reached the quarterfinal stage from which the winners of the quarter's matches moved to the semifinals.

The top four teams were

1. Arabtec A

2. Arabtec B

3. Metrofile

4. Dubai Furniture

Arabtec A played against Arabtec B, while Metrofile had to prove them against Dubai furniture. In a strongly fought contest Metrofile got the better of Dubai furniture, while Arabtec A beat their second half of their own company.

Arabtec A had been ruling right through the league phase and as expected came out with their best performance to overcome Metrofile's strong competition. Arabtec is definitely turning out to be the dark horse at the Olympiads and slowly but surely climbing up the standings to get up to the top spot.

The final standings were as follows;

1. Arabtec A

2. Metrofile

3. Arabtec B

4. Dubai Furniture

5. Al Reyami

6. Faisal Jassim Trading Company A

We would definitely like to give a mention to Al Reyami for their spirit and competitiveness. Three cheers to them for putting in their best efforts, each player trying to give more than hundred percent at all the events and coming out in full force with a cheering squad in tag, making the Olympiads lively. Arabtec are always at their best when they go " Aaraaabtec, Aaaraabtec!!". The huge turnout they have at each event is becoming a feature of the games. We would definitely look forward to see more of them at the forthcoming games.

Badminton

If cricket saw participation of 20 teams badminton was not to be left behind. One can get an idea from the length of time the event went on. Participants competed for badminton singles, doubles and team events. And this time it was not Arabtec, EBS or Al Reyami who took the honors but a set of entirely new teams.

All the finals were played between Starwood and Aswan making them stands apart from rest of the participating teams. In each final Starwood got the better of Aswan to take the numero uno position on the podium showing their skill and competence at the game.

The results of the badminton tournament were as follows;

3rd place : Aswan - player name : Dsridhar

3rd place : Aswan

4th place : EBS

The games are not over yet, like we said before Arabtec is slowly making its way up the ladder towards the pinnacle. Currently EBS sits at the top with a comfortable margin but with basketball and table tennis coming up on 28th of may they will have to try hard and maintain their lead.

With the Olympiads entering in the last phase the competition is surely heating up and we wish all the teams luck in the pursuit for the final winners trophy.

28 th of May

28th May 2006 day four at the Olympiads and I wouldn't be wrong if I call it Day Arabtec. I guess they had made up their minds to rule all the events for the day, and they sure did in a manner that exuded confidence, a will to win, with an aim to reach the top. From day one they have been participating in almost all the events and have come from behind to reach where they are right now. The dark horse is slowly but surely turning out to be a race winner.

Table tennis

Table tennis had a big response with Arabtec having the maximum number of participants, EBS, Aswan, Faisal Jassim Trading company, Al Reyami, Duproof, Metrofile participating. It was played as singles, doubles and a team event so teams had ample of opportunity to move up the points structure.

In the singles Arabtec ruled the podium taking all the top spots winning the first, second and third place. In the doubles as well Arabtec won the top three spots. They seemed to have made a winning habit at the event today and in the team event the top spot was again Arabtec, Faisal Jassim Trading Company coming in second.

Basketball

The day belonged to The Jordans and O'neals of Dubai Investments Park, it was a day for slam dunks and half step jumps, the dribbles and the blocks. It was a day for basketball, a day for the people participating to emulate their NBA idols. Though there were just 5 teams participating the excitement and energy was tremendous. The matches were played in a round robin format with each team playing against the other gaining points in the process. EBS was in the event with a determination to hold on to their top spot, Arabtec with an ambition to topple them from the top position.

The teams participating in the event were;

1. Arabtec A

2. Arabtec B

3. Faisal Jassim Trading company

4. Hard Precast

5. EBS

EBS was cruising through winning all their matches with comfortable margins till they met Arabtec in the final match. In a hard fought contest swinging one way then the other, going on to the last minute Arabtec kept their composure and won by a slim margin. It was a game to watch with both the teams trying to get the better of other. But towards the end Arabtec kept their nerves together to win it and emerge as champions.

The final Standings for Basketball-

Overall it was Arabtec ruling the games today taking the top spots at all the events. The only games remaining to be competed for are Squash and Tennis. The way the Olympiads have been progressing all we can say is "May the best team Win!"

01 st of June

1st June 2006 the Final day at the Olympiads. The venue for the final showdown was Club Joumana at Jebel Ali Golf Resort. The games had moved outdoors with tennis singles and doubles on the final day. The heat and humidity was unforgiving but that couldn't dampen the spirit of the participants, which has been the feature of the game from day one.

One was looking forward to players from Faisal Jassim Trading company try their best to cut down Arabtecs margin for the overall championship, but Arabtec put a small twist to the story on the final day as well. If Faisal Jassim Trading company had to get close to Arabtec they would have wanted to whitewash all the proceedings for the day; tennis singles, doubles and squash. But Arabtec who have grown from strength to strength won all the positions for squash putting a brake on Faisal Jassims pursuit.

Squash Final standings

1st Place : Arabtec ( Rami Rabany)

2nd place : Arabtec ( Shadi Abdallah)

3rd place : Arabtec ( Maher Malhas)

Tennis

The main attraction of the day was tennis, one was wondering how one would survive in the sweltering heat and humidity for even one game. The matches were played in a round robin format with each player playing against the other. Faisal Jassims presence was strong with 3 players in singles hoping to make maximum points out of it. They battled it out against players from EBS and Metrofile vying for the top spot, with a never say die spirit. But Tony from Metrofile came out with a performance that helped him take the top spot. Faisal Jassim took the next to spots but it was not enough to make any dent in Arabtecs overall lead.

Tennis Singles final standings

1st Place : Metrofile - Player Name : Tony

2nd place : Faisal Jassim - Player Name : Edvardo

3rd place : Faisal Jassim - Player name : Samir

4th place : EBS - player name : Jameel

DIP Olympiads have come to an end for this year. Next year it will definitely be on a larger scale and with more companies participating. It was a platform where people came together, interacted, fought hard to be on the top. What this event has done for the participants is that it has given them something else to look forward to apart from daily work, a sense of achievement, brought out the sportsman in them.
